Getting Organized

I read about making lists once in reader's digest. And I started making lists. Gradually it became a habit. I make a lot of lists.

My To Do lists contain the chores that need to be taken care of. I used to make my to do list on my first two jobs.

I work in a call centre now, and I don't need to make list for the work that needs to be done. But I make list of chores I need to do at home. My list of chores looks like this

  • 1. Do Laundry
  • 2. Vacuum living room and bedroom
  • 3. Clean kitchn
  • 4. Cooking chores, soak rice, wash dishes

Etc. etc.

What I love about to do lists is that it shows how much you need to do. It also shows how much you got done at the end of the day. Also I love crossing the done work out.

I can also find making lists keep me focussed on the important chores, and I'm not distracted by other chores that need attention. I write them down, but do the important ones first.

I also have a notepad hanging in my kitchen. When I run out of groceries or am about to, I note them down. Or, if I want to try out a new recipe, and don't have an ingredient, I note that down as well. This makes my grocery list.

2. Poultry (Eggs, Chicken etc)

3. Salt and spices

4. Bread, Ice creams, chips, fast food and junk food.

Etc. etc.

I started blogging as a hobby, and now I have come to love it. For those who don't know what a blog is, it's a website in the form of a diary. I used to browse other blogs, get ideas and make lists of ways to improve it.

  1. Add a subscribe and a bookmark button
  2. Change the colours of the template until it suits me
  3. Research on ways to make it popular
  4. Add a Google Search bar
  5. Make banners for the blog.

Etc, etc,

Book reading is another of my obsessions. I have a list of books that I've read in Excel and I have categorized them as fiction, self-help, how-to and more. I also have a list of books by authors that I intend to read soon. The Deathly Harrows by J.K. Rowling tops the list.

I make a list of the expenses as well and categorize them as Food, Home, Personal and Entertainment, I learnt to make expense list from my parents. They religiously enter the expenses in their respective diaries.

It is however, easy to forget and boring task. I make it a point to bring the receipts and put them on my computer trolley. It makes the trolley look messy, and I don't throw the receipts away until I have entered them. So I have to enter them.

Expense List helps in making budgets and sticking to them. It also helps in saving money too. Also, at the end of the month, I sum them up and compare the total expense with the previous months. It especially helps the women when their partners accuse them of spending too much.

Lists make me organized and efficient. I get things done faster when they are on my list. Also, if I have my grocery list ready, I don't come back home after grocery shopping, and suddenly remember I forgot milk or anything essential. I can also hand the list to my husband, who can buy them for me.

I get immense satisfaction in crossing out the chores from my list. And to see all of them crossed. Of course, there is always another list to replace the previous one.

They are very addictive you know!
